　　China University of Petroleum(East China)is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education.It is one of the key universities in the construction of the"211 Project"and the construction of the"985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform",as well as the establishment of a graduate school.The school is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education,the five major energy enterprise groups,the Ministry of Education,and the People's Government of Shandong Province.It is an important base for cultivating high-level talents in petroleum and petrochemical industry,known as the"cradle of petroleum technology and management talents",and has now become a university with a focus on work,distinct petroleum and petrochemical characteristics,and coordinated development of multiple disciplines.In 2017 and 2022,it entered the ranks of national"Double First Class"construction universities.
　　Tracing back to the history of the school,at the beginning of the founding of New China in 1953,the national economy urgently needed petroleum resources,and the development of the petroleum industry urgently needed professional talents.In this situation,based on the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Tsinghua University,relevant faculty and educational conditions from famous universities such as Peking University,Tianjin University,and Dalian Institute of Technology were gathered to establish the first petroleum higher education institution in New China-Beijing Petroleum Institute,which was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Fuel Industry and was one of the eight famous colleges in Beijing at that time.In October 1960,the school was designated as a national key university.In 1969,the school moved to Dongying,Shandong,where Shengli Oilfield is located,and was renamed as East China Petroleum Institute.In June 1981,the Graduate Department was established at the original campus of Beijing Institute of Petroleum.In 1988,the school was renamed as the University of Petroleum,gradually forming a pattern of education in Shandong and Beijing.In 1997,University of Petroleum officially entered the first batch of key construction universities in the national"211 Project".In 2000,the University of Petroleum was transferred from China National Petroleum Corporation to the Ministry of Education.In June 2000,with the approval of the Ministry of Education,the school established a graduate school.In October 2003,the Ministry of Education signed an agreement with the four major national oil companies to jointly build a petroleum university.In August 2004,the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the Qingdao Campus for the University of Petroleum(East China).In January 2005,the school was renamed as China University of Petroleum.In August 2005,the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Shandong Province signed an agreement to jointly build China University of Petroleum(East China).In October 2006,the school passed the undergraduate teaching level evaluation by the Ministry of Education with an"excellent"score.In 2010,the school became one of the first 61 pilot universities in the country to implement the"Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan"and one of the 32 subordinate universities responsible for the national"Comprehensive Reform Pilot Work of Professional Degree Graduate Education".In April 2014,the Ministry of Education signed an agreement with five major energy conglomerates,including China National Petroleum Corporation,China Petrochemical Corporation,China National Offshore Oil Corporation,Shenhua Group Co.,Ltd.,and Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum(Group)Co.,Ltd.,to jointly build China University of Petroleum.In December 2018,the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Shandong Province jointly established China University of Petroleum(East China).In 2021,the school's registered location will be adjusted to Qingdao.

　　The school covers a total area of over 5000 acres,with a construction area of over 1.3 million square meters,and has developed into a school layout of"two campuses and one park"(Qingdao Tangdao Bay Campus,Guzhenkou Campus,and Dongying Science and Education Park).Qingdao's two campuses are located in the charming sailing capital and seaside city,enjoying a high reputation as Qingdao.Dongying Science and Education Park is located in the central city,ecological city,and oil city of the Yellow River Delta-Dongying,Shandong.Both campuses and one park are located in the two national strategic key areas of"Blue and Yellow".At the same time,Qingdao's two campuses are also located in the newly established national level new area-Qingdao West Coast New Area in 2014.The school has a graduate school,including the School of Earth Science and Technology,the School of Petroleum Engineering,the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering,the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering,the School of Storage and Transportation and Building Engineering,the School of Materials Science and Engineering,the Shidashaneng New Energy College,the School of Ocean and Space Information,the School of Control Science and Engineering,the Qingdao Software College,the School of Computer Science and Technology,the School of Science,the School of Economic Management,the School of Foreign Languages,and the School of Grammar and Law,There are 16 teaching colleges(departments)including the School of Marxism,the Department of Physical Education,as well as the Meta College,the School of International Education,the School of Distance Education,and the School of Continuing Education.
　　The disciplines and majors cover various fields of the petroleum and petrochemical industry,and the overall level of the main petroleum disciplines is at a leading position in China.There are 14 first level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees,7 second level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees,9 interdisciplinary disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees,4 types of doctoral degree authorization,33 first level disciplines authorized for master's degrees,15 types of master's degree authorization,60 undergraduate enrollment majors,and 11 postdoctoral mobile stations.We have five national key disciplines,including mineral survey and exploration,oil and gas well engineering,oil and gas field development engineering,chemical technology,and oil and gas storage and transportation engineering,as well as two national key(cultivated)disciplines,including earth exploration and information technology,and industrial catalysis.Engineering,chemistry,materials science,earth science,computer science,environment and ecology,social science overview,mathematics and other eight disciplines have entered the top 1%of ESI global discipline rankings,with engineering,chemistry,and earth science entering the top 1‰of ESI global discipline rankings.Two first-class disciplines,namely Geological Resources and Geological Engineering,and Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering,have been selected for the national"Double First Class"construction plan.

　　The school's education system is complete,and the structure of various education levels is reasonable.There are currently over 19000 full-time undergraduate students,over 10000 graduate students,and over 700 international students.Since its establishment,the school has always adhered to the fundamental task of talent cultivation,focusing on building a high-quality brand for talent cultivation,and has won a wide social reputation.A large number of outstanding talents have emerged from the vast number of alumni,including 30 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering,as well as a large number of leading figures and engineering technology backbone in the petroleum and petrochemical industry.In 2004,it was awarded the honorary title of"National Advanced Employment Unit"by the State Council.In 2011,it was selected as one of 50 universities with typical experience in graduate employment nationwide.In 2019,it was selected as the"National Innovation Talent Training Demonstration Base".

　　The school adheres to open education,continuously expands the field of social services and development space,and has signed comprehensive cooperation agreements with more than 80 local governments and large enterprises and institutions in China.The school attaches great importance to international exchange and cooperation,and has established substantial cooperation and exchange relationships with over 200 higher education institutions and academic institutions from 50 countries and regions such as the United States,France,Canada,Australia,the United Kingdom,and Russia.We have hired over a hundred famous experts and figures as part-time professors,honorary professors,and visiting professors at our school.In recent years,international cooperation and exchange projects have gradually increased,showing good development prospects.
